Sliding-Swivel Shower/Bathtub Transfer Chairs
This special chair is totally positioned inside of the tub or shower, so this may be a better choice for small bathrooms, and/or for anyone who requires the use of a walker or wheelchair. The sliding-swivel shower or bath transfer chair faces the outside of the tub or shower, allowing you to sit down, just as you would in a regular chair, and then it helps you to slide yourself backward into the tub or shower to swivel and attend to bathing or showering. The seat height is typically not adjustable, however, which may not be the best choice for taller individuals.
Sliding-Swivel Shower/Bathtub Transfer Benches
Similar to the sliding-swivel shower/bathtub transfer chair, this transfer solution also slides you back and swivels to any position you require. But the bench version generally does have legs that extend to the outside of the bathtub wall, and it also features an adjustable seat height, making it a better swivel and slide choice for taller users than the chair. The sliding-swivel bench also tends to work better with more square-shaped tubs.
Shower/Bathtub Transfer Chair and Bench Combinations
Combining the best of both the transfer chair and bench, combinations of the two generally highlight a side piece attachment that makes it possible for you to sit comfortably with both legs outside of the tub or shower. You then slide backwards and swing each leg over into the tub. Combination transfer chairs/benches most often feature adjustable heights, and do not have legs outside of the tub that might make space too small for a walker or wheelchair.
Sliding Shower/Bathtub Transfer Chairs (with Wheels)
This may be an especially wonderful choice for those who use wheelchairs, but are helpful for others with limited mobility as well. Because many standard wheelchairs are simply too wide to fit through typically narrow bathroom doorways, the wheeled shower/bath transfer chair is specifically designed in a compressed format, allowing wheelchair users more independent access to using the bathroom without a caregiver or second person to help out. The seat on this wheeled transfer device slides along a track to move you into the tub, or it can be removed from the track and used like a wheelchair for transport into and out of the bathroom.
